Residents interested in volunteering for municipal committees, commissions and boards will find their overall purpose, duties and membership requirements listed below. Applications are accepted in November, except in an election year, for opportunities that are available beginning in January of each year. Please note there may not be opening for all committees noted below.
Board of Variance The Board of Variance is an avenue for appeal of the interpretation and the strict application of certain local government provisions and regulations in specific circumstances defined in the legislation. It functions separately from the local government that established it and has its own authority under the Community Charter.
Burrard Thermal Liaison Committee The aim of the Burrard Thermal Liaison Committee is to provide a forum for the exchange of information between the City of Port Moody and B.C. Hydro's Burrard Thermal Generating Plant.
City/CPR Community Advisory Panel The aim of the City/CPR Community Advisory Panel is to provide a forum for the exchange of information between the City of Port Moody and CPR.
Community Care Committee The aim of the Community Care Committee is to provide City Council with advice and recommendations on senior services and accessibility issues and related matters within the terms of the Council Committee System Policy.
2008 Council Indemnity Task Force The purpose of the Task Force will be to review all compensation, indemnity, tax-free allowance and benefits, and make recommendations to Council.
Economic, Tourism and Arts Development The aim of the Economic, Tourism and Arts Development Committee is to provide Council with advice and recommendations on strategic economic, tourism and arts development directions and related matters within the terms of the Council Committee System Policy.
Environmental Protection Committee The aim of the Environmental Protection Committee is to provide City Council with advice and recommendations on environmental issues and within the terms of the Council Committee System Policy.
Fire Department Advisory Committee The aim of the Fire Department Advisory Committee is to provide City Council with advice on improving capabilities in the Fire Department in context of a growing city.
Land Use Committee The Land Use Committee aims to provide City Council with advice and recommendations on proposed land use changes and related matters.
Library Board The Board of Trustees Policy Manual is developed and/or approved by the Library Board of Trustees.
Traffic Safety Committee The Traffic Safety Committee aims to provide City Council or the City Administrator with advice and recommendations on traffic and related issues.
Joint Family Court and Youth Justice Committee The ongoing duties and responsibilities of the Committee includes, amoung others, to have a positive influence in educating the public on issues related to Family Court and to consider and examine the resources of the community for family and children's matters.
Heritage Commission Bylaw The Commission shall act as an advisory body to Council on matters relating to Port Moody's natural and cultural heritage resources including, heritage buildings, sites and neighbourhoods.
Parks and Recreation Commission Bylaw The Commission shall act as an advisory body to Council regarding the public use and needs of amenities, facilities, programs, and services provided by the Community Services Department.
Port Moody Spirit of BC Committee The overall purpose of this committee is to provide for effective liaison and consultation between the City of Port Moody, the community, and the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Organizing Committee to develop Port Moody's participation in events related to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Youth Focus Committee The Youth Focus Committee aims to provide City Council with advice and reccommendations on youth issues, strategies and initiatives. |
