First elected to City Council in 2002, Karen Rockwell is a Union Representative for the Canadian Office and Professional Employees Union Local 378. Previously serving 19 years at the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, most of them as a bodily injury adjuster, past vice-president of COPE 378 and as an Employee Member of the Labour Relations Board of British Columbia, Karen is highly experienced in labour relations, negotiations, mediation and conflict resolution.
In the past two terms on City Council, Karen has served on many commissions and committees, including the Heritage and Parks and Recreation Commissions, Traffic Safety, Economic Tourism and Arts Development, Community Care, Finance and Land Use Committees. She has represented the City at the Port Moody Arts Centre Society, Fraser Burrard Community Justice Society (now Communities Embracing Restorative Action), Joint Family Court and Youth Justice Committee, Golden Spike Days Society and the Youth Focus Committee. In addition, Karen has represented the City at the regional level through participation on the Lower Mainland Treaty Advisory Committee, and in the past term, at the Labour Relations Bureau of Metro Vancouver.
Karen continues to volunteer her time as a labour educator for the Canadian Labour Congress and is a past long time volunteer with Girl Guides of Canada.
Karen and her partner Geoff reside in Pleasantside where they enjoy gardening, walking Port Moody’s many trails, reading and motorcycling. With both of their children grown, they also enjoy travelling.
