New sustainability checklist for developers has the city seeing green
A new checklist for the City of the Arts is helping developers incorporate sustainable elements, including cultural vitality, into future Port Moody projects. Directing staff to develop a Community Sustainability Plan, Port Moody City Council wants the city to think (and build) green.
Moody Street overpass in Port Moody closed to traffic
The Moody Street overpass was hit by a private garbage truck this morning. There is no pedestrian or vehicle access across the bridge indefinitely. Murray Street is closed, except to local traffic, until further notice. The boat launch at Rocky Point Park is also closed until further notice.
Update - Grant St. Storm Sewer Improvements
On Wednesday November 25, 2009 the City of Port Moody will recommence construction of the storm sewer on Grant Street from St Johns Street to Clarke Street. The City expects to complete the project by Friday December 4, weather permitting.

Designs sought for street banners
In preparation for the 2010 Community Banner Painting Festival, the City of Port Moody is announcing its latest Call for Designs. This festival is part of the City of Port Moody’s StreetArts Program, which includes painted banners, painted public work trucks, painted garbage cans, stylized tree grates and street furniture. Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to submit designs for the 6th Annual Community Banner Painting Festival, under the theme “Nautical”.

Watermain Flushing - Glenayre, Seaview and College Park Communities
The City of Port Moody will be performing uni-directional watermain cleaning in the Glenayre Seaview, College Park areas beginning September 28 through December 2009.

PORT MOODY – The City of Port Moody wants to ensure that its residents have a safe and Happy Halloween. That’s why this coming Saturday night, staff from the Parks division will be out in vehicles with flashing lights at various parks sites.

Letter claiming health risks is not from a credible source
The City of Port Moody was made aware by members of the public that an unsigned letter of unknown source and questionable validity was recently sent to residents living near the Imperial Oil terminal at Ioco. The letter includes a traditional health logo as part of its heading and the caption “Health & Environment Advisory Agency – BC Division”.

Moody St Overpass Update – Wednesday July 22 2009 3:30 pm
Engineering staff at the City of Port Moody are continuing to work closely with a bridge engineer and a contractor to repair the Moody Street overpass. Construction is expected continue for the next few weeks. The damaged girder has to be retrofitted with new steel reinforcements and concrete; concrete was cast on July 14 and is presently curing.
Moody St Overpass Update – Sunday June 28 at 3pm
Starting Monday June 29 single-lane counterflow traffic will be implemented across the damaged Moody St Overpass. From 5am to 12pm (noon) there will be single lane westbound traffic only into Vancouver. From 12pm (noon) to 5am there will be single lane eastbound traffic only from Vancouver into Port Moody.
Storm sewer improvements & watermain repairs
Starting Monday October 19 the City of Port Moody will be constructing an additional storm sewer on Grant St from St Johns St to Clarke St, and repairing the watermain at Grant St and St Johns St. The City expects to complete the project by Monday, November 30.
Moody St Overpass Update – Bridge to re-open for two-way traffic
The single lane counter-flow system that has been in place on the damaged Moody Street Overpass for the last few weeks will revert back to the normal two-way traffic flow starting Friday July 31, 2009 at 7:00 am

Port Moody fire fighters promote wellness and fitness
Port Moody Fire Department is hosting a course to promote healthy lifestyles among B.C. firefighters. Thirty firefighters signed up for the one-week peer training program sponsored by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). The training program is foundational to implementing a successful IAFF Wellness-Fitness Initiative (WFI).
Port Moody to participate in UBC traffic pollution project
The City of Port Moody is participating in an upcoming UBC study to measure the levels of traffic-related pollutants throughout the Metro Vancouver.
Port Moody's OCP put on hold
On Tuesday, July 28 Port Moody Council confirmed that the City’s Official Community Plan (OCP) process is now on hold until TransLink and the Province confirm their plans for major transportation infrastructure in Port Moody.
Watermain Renewal - Viewmount Drive Viewmount Place
Starting September 28, the City of Port Moody will be replacing approximately 660 metres of watermain along Viewmount Drive and Viewmount Place.
Port Moody supports Access Awareness Day
June 6, 2009 is Access Awareness Day in British Columbia. The City of Port Moody is participating in this day of individual and group action to provide equitable opportunities and accessible communities for all citizens. On June 6, from 1:00 -3:00 pm, residents can learn more about accessibility and inclusion at an information display in the Galleria at Port Moody City Hall.
Ioco Road Sanitary Sewer – Evening Construction
The City of Port Moody is constructing a new sanitary sewer that needs to cross the Barnet Highway. Construction starts at the intersection of Ioco Road and Barnet Highway, continuing along Barnet Highway to Dewdney Trunk Road. To minimize traffic disruptions construction will take place in the evenings from 8pm to 6am starting Thursday, November 26 to Saturday, December 5. Traffic controllers will be onsite to assist pedestrians and vehicles through the construction site.
Evergreen Line hosts Environmental Assessment Open Houses
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is hosting three open houses as part of its environmental assessment review of the Evergreen Line. The open houses will provide information about the draft Application Information Requirements and gather comments from the public in communities along the route alignment.
Road work at Murray St and Ioco Rd starts Thursday August 6
Paving operations will be taking place along Murray St and Ioco Rd from Thursday August 6 until Thursday August 13, 2009.
Port Moody Goes Green with its New Winter-Sports Themed Banners
Just in time for the holiday season, the City of Port Moody proudly reveals its colourful new collection of winter banners made from recycled materials. The banners showcase five winter sports that are practiced in and around Port Moody: hockey, curling, figure-skating, sledge-hockey and snowboarding.
Port Moody celebrates Earth Week
On Saturday, the Centennial Secondary Aquatic Conservation Team will join forces with the City’s Parks and Environment staff to remove invasive plants from Suter Brook Creek. On Sunday they return to plant native trees and shrubs in the same area.

Drinking Water Week is May 3-9, 2009
For the week of May 3-9, Port Moody will join cities and water utilities across Canada to highlight the importance of protecting our water supplies and conserving resources. For years Port Moody has been a leading advocate for water conservation practices. Drinking Water Week is just one more opportunity for the City to promote its efforts and accomplishments in providing residents with safe, reliable drinking water.
City Hall Offers Unique Career Experiences
City Halls are great places to work! With so many career choices available, that’s the message that Port Moody and Port Coquitlam are sending as they team up to host a management intern. Thanks to a grant from the Local Government Management Internship Program, Marta Taylor will spend nine months working as a Project Manager with Port Moody and three months working with Port Coquitlam.

Mayor voices concern over possible library funding cuts
City council is extremely concerned that the Port Moody Public Library still has not heard from the provincial government about its annual per capita operating grant. Public libraries across BC are being threatened by potential cuts to provincial grants. This pending threat prompted Council to vote unanimously in favour of writing to the Premier and Minister stressing the importance of maintaining provincial support for public libraries.
Helmets mandatory for Port Moody skateboarders
Skateboarders in Port Moody should take note - if you want to skate in Port Moody you’d better be wearing a helmet! That’s because in Port Moody helmets are the law for skateboarders. The City adopted its mandatory bylaw in October 2002 when the unfortunate passing of Matthew Elder galvanized Port Moody’s Council to develop a helmet bylaw.
Port Moody bans smoking and open fires
Effective Friday July 24, the City of Port Moody is banning smoking in city parks, green spaces and on trails. The ban is due to a high fire-hazard rating brought on by the recent hot, dry weather.
Port Moody wins first round of GamesTown 2010 contest
With the competition heating up for GamesTown 2010, Port Moody scores with a Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Collateral Prize Pack. At the July 14 Council Meeting, the Honourable Iain Black, Minister of Small Business, Technology and Economic Development and MLA for Port Moody-Coquitlam, presented Council with an award for participating in the GamesTown 2010 contest.

The Moody Street overpass remains closed indefinitely.
Public safety is the City of Port Moody’s primary concern at this time. Therefore, bridge access is closed to all traffic both across and under the overpass until further notice.
Port Moody digs out as the snow starts to melt
The snow may be slowly making its way down the drain, but businesses and residents in the City of Port Moody aren’t quite done with it yet. Port Moody staff are now cleaning up local streets to ensure accessibility, and are asking residents and business owners to make sure they know their responsibilities.
UBCM endorses Port Moody resolutions
The Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) endorsed two resolutions put forward by the City of Port Moody at their 2009 Convention. Port Moody successfully sought UBCM support for a provincial ban on cell phone use while driving. The B.C. government has now introduced legislation that bans drivers from chatting, emailing and texting on cell phones while they're behind the wheel.
2009 Community Banner Painting Festival
The 2009 Community Banner Painting Festival will be held Saturday, January 24 and Sunday, January 25 at Port Moody’s Civic Centre Galleria. Artists and volunteers will be painting banner designs based on the theme Active Life.
Moody Street overpass closed indefinitely, Rocky Point boat launch open
The Moody Street overpass remains closed indefinitely. The bridge is closed to traffic both across and under the overpass. There is llimited access for Pacific Coast Terminal and other local users. The boat launch at Rocky Point Park is now open.

There has been interest expressed from various media sources regarding the City of Port Moody Council meeting to be held September 22, 2009. Council Correction Notice
Murray Clark Connector
On June 24, 2009, a truck damaged the old (1969) Moody street overpass, forcing the closure of Murray street. Engineers ordered the immediate closure of the overpass. By 4:00 pm, traffic congestion had built up to the point where Barnet Highway was turned into a parking lot right up to Hastings street. The traffic jam lasted until 8:30 pm that night.
Anmore and Belcarra residents who own property in Port Moody will pay regular fees for recreation services
The City of Port Moody welcomes residents of the Villages of Anmore and Belcarra who choose to participate in Port Moody Recreation Services. Until recently, the residents paid a premium fee to use the new recreation centre. Now there’s a reprieve for those residents who own property in Port Moody.

As a result of extremely heavy rains that have fallen on the steep mountains above Metro Vancouver’s water supply lakes, some consumers may notice that tap water will become cloudy or coloured within the next 24 hours.
Chinese media interested in friendship between Port Moody and Tianjin
On Monday, June 15, 2009, Mayor Trasolini was interviewed by TJ TV, a Private Broadcaster in Tianjin, China. The interview took place at the Binhai New Area Business and Commerce Centre. The Port Moody delegation was visiting the centre and discussing business development, urban planning, and transportation services with the Commerce Centre's executive director.
Mayor and council invite taxpayers to discuss budget
Port Moody’s mayor and council want to hear from residents and other taxpayers on the city’s proposed operating budget for 2009. Council will host a town hall meeting at city hall on Wednesday March 4, 2009 to engage citizens in the budget process.
