The City of Port Moody recently received the prestigious Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) for its 2008 Annual Report.

“We are extremely proud of our Finance Department for maintaining the highest standards of financial reporting,’ said Mayor Joe Trasolini.  “This award clearly demonstrates that the City is committed to public disclosure. Port Moody residents can have confidence in the way the City does its financial business."

This is Port Moody’s fifth consecutive win, noted Paul Rockwood, Director of Corporate Services, who received the award. “The award was established to encourage municipal governments to publish financial reports that are transparent, useful and easy to understand.”  To qualify, Port Moody’s report needed to exceed the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles.

The CAnFr award is presented annually by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the U.S.A. and Canada. In British Columbia, municipalities are required to publish an annual report that includes the municipality’s audited annual financial statements for the previous year as well as a report on its accomplishments, activities progress towards established goals and objectives.

Port Moody’s annual report is produced in-house. The 2008 Annual Report is available at City Hall, the public library and online.
