The City of Port Moody passed a new tree retention bylaw in the fall of 1999 to ensure that any trees requiring removal for development or construction of land or buildings other than for single-family dwellings will be replaced by two trees once the development is complete.
Developers intending to remove trees must submit an application to the City's Planning and Development Services Department. The approval process involves retaining an arborist who conducts a tree assessment of the property in question to determine which trees require removal and what species should be used to replace them.
The City's Operations staff deal with tree removal and replacement of any trees located on public property.
This bylaw does not apply to single-family dwellings already in existence.
