 Proposed Moody Centre Heritage Conservation Area.

The City of Port Moody is preparing a Heritage Conservation Area for Moody Centre.  The use of a Heritage Conservation Area was identified by the community and the Port Moody Heritage Commission as a way in which Moody Centre’s architectural and cultural history can be protected, preserved and promoted. Port Moody Strategic Plan

In 2001, Council endorsed a five year Heritage Strategic Plan in order to identify, maintain and protect community heritage resources.  This Plan successfully guided Port Moody’s heritage program from 2001 until 2006 and most of the tasks set out in the work plan have been successfully completed or are ongoing.  In the fall of 2006, members of the Port Moody Heritage Commission passed a resolution to update the Heritage Strategic Plan and set out a prioritized work plan for the next five year period.

The Strategic Plan Update will serve as a guide to conserve significant heritage resources for future generations.  The Plan Update seeks to answer five key questions:

1. Where are we now?  outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the current management of heritage resources.
2. Where do we want to go?  defining a vision and future direction for heritage resource management.
3. How do we get there?  setting out mechanisms to achieve the vision for heritage resource management.
4. What resources are needed to get there?  identifying the resources needed to implement the Heritage Strategic plan.
5. How do we know whether we got there?  evaluating and monitoring the implementation of the Heritage Strategic Plan over time. 

Heritage consultant Donald Luxton and Associates was retained to prepare the Plan Update in consultation with the Port Moody Heritage Commission, staff and community stakeholders.  The plan was adopted by Council on July 24, 2007.
